Role purpose: The Electronics and Control Systems Buyer is responsible for raising and managing purchase orders for electronic components, wiring looms/harnesses, sensors and control systems hardware, ensuring engineering specifications are correctly communicated and that the purchase requirement is properly authorised.
Main duties
- Generate purchase orders for electronic components, control systems hardware and related services, ensuring engineering specifications and up-issues (e.g. PCB revisions, firmware/hardware compatibility) are fully communicated.
- Expedite and progress deliveries from suppliers and maintain timely reporting on outstanding parts (sensors, looms, ECUs, connectors).
- Resolve non-conformances quickly (component failures, incorrect firmware/hardware revision, damaged connectors).
- Complete commercial checks of supplier payment terms, delivery terms and general T&Cs.
- Lead tender processes and create new contracts with clear deliverables, lead times and terms.
- Develop a strategic supply base and carry out supplier audits (ESD control, IPC-A-610/620 compliance, traceability).
- Challenge supplier acknowledgements, particularly around lead time and obsolescence risk.
- Negotiate best-value contracts with attention to component traceability and counterfeit avoidance.
Capabilities
- Previous procurement experience in a fast-changing engineering or manufacturing environment, ideally in electronics or control systems.
- F1, automotive or motorsport procurement experience is desirable, but not essential.
- Understanding of technical drawings, schematics and BOMs; awareness of obsolescence management, counterfeit avoidance and traceability (IPC-A-610/620).
- Excellent communication, negotiation and influencing skills; good problem-solving and the ability to work on own initiative.
